New Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI 13) - Geneva progresses to the 7th place!

Geneva Financial Centre notes with satisfaction that Geneva progresses to the 7th place of the GFCI ranking (9th in the previous one), which assesses the competitiveness of 79 financial centres.

We also welcome the fact that Zurich remains at the 5th place.

This ranking is updated every six months on a weighting of one hundred factors combined with comments from some 2,400 respondents, a result which gives a total of points and allows prioritization of centres.

Among the comments in the comprehensive study prepared by the Z / Yen Group, based in London, we note that:

  • Geneva remains a 'Global financial centre', characterized as a 'Global Specialist';
  • Geneva remains the third European Place (the 1st French speaking Place);
  • Geneva is well noted by respondents from the Middle East, Africa, North America, Europe and Asia;
  • Geneva is in the Top 10 of the sub-sector indices: Investment management, Government & Regulatory, Insurance, Professional Services;
  • as well as in the Top 10 of the sub-indices of competitiveness: People, Business Environment, Market Access, Infrastructure, General competitiveness;
  • Places of London, Hong Kong, New York, Singapore, Zurich, Geneva and Frankfurt, are seen as "stable" and less likely of variation than other centres.

Besides, the study also notes the following comment: "Good to see Geneva so well rated – they have dealt well with the international pressure for less secrecy.";

Note that the Preface of the study (p. 1) is given annually to a different financial centre. This year the authors have entrusted its drafting to Mr Bernard DROUX, President of Geneva Financial Centre.
