Globalization and the Reform of the International Banking and Monetary System

This conference will address one of the key issues of international order today and one that is likely to gain in importance in the short and medium-term future. In fact,today, there is widespread concern about the state of the international financial system and about the ability of the monetary authorities to fight inflation and at the same time to help avoid a severe recession in the world economy.

The objective of the conference is to highlight the perceived need for adjustments and reform in the international banking system and in the international monetary system that are considered necessary in order to assure the financial and monetary stability and flexibility necessary for a growing and dynamic world economy. The speakers at the conference will address both the historical evolution of the banking system and of international monetary order in the last forty years, including the record of previous reform efforts, and potential future scenarios.
