The partners of the Geneva financial Place
Banks specializing in asset management, universal banks, commercial establishments, cantonal bank, private bankers, foreign banks or their branch offices : the Geneva financial Place has a high concentration of banking establishments when compared to the rest of Switzerland. Altogether, the companies included in the financial services category occupy about 13% of Geneva’s labour force.
Geneva’s financial sector is not limited to banks. There are also many finance intermediaries. In 2009, the Répertoire des Entreprises du Canton de Genève enumerated more than 2'700 in Geneva.
Geneva also contains a dense network of other financially oriented activities. The insurance industry is admittedly under-represented. But financial market administration, brokerage, portfolio management and other auxiliary services in Geneva come to a total of double the Swiss average for similar activities.
When summing up all the actors in Geneva’s financial hub, it is important not to forget the important role played by lawyers & notaries (they are about 2'000 in Geneva), and fiduciary experts (more than 1'200 companies in the field), and management and business consultants.
